Yesterday all servers in the U.S. went out on strike in a bid to get more RAM and better CPUs. A spokes person said that the need for better RAM was due to some fool increasing the front-side bus speed. In future, buses will be told to slow down in residential motherboards.

Web Host Support Board

E-mail

Some web hosting companies are not particularly good at providing support to their customers (surprise!!) and most do not provide a forum that allows interaction between their customers so we are providing this board as a place where all can ask questions or give information about any web hosting company. Sub boards will be created for discussion of individual companies as they are brought up.

This is the place to request or provide information about Web Hosting companies.

Please keep posts on topic and put the name of the company in the subject line of your post.

If a child board has been created for the company, please post to the respective child board.

All posts here will be thoroughly researched so if you are posting advertising here – make it good or be ready to take the consequences.

5 Quick Tips To Get Website Traffic Fast!

E-mail

Online, one of the most significant keys to success is getting website traffic. The more visitors you have, the better your sales and profits. Presumably you have a niche and you know your keywords, and regularly conduct keyword research to stay on top of what’s popular. Based on those assumptions here are five quick and easy tips to get website traffic fast!

Tip #1 Make sure you’re actually tagging your keywords.

Do you spend a lot of time optimizing your content and then neglect to tag them on your webpage? Tags are where search engines look and if there are no tags they’ll pass right by your web pages. Here’s a quick brief on tags.

There are a number of tag types including,

* Title tags. Title tags are quite possibly the most important place to situate your keywords. Here’s what they look like - <title>Primary keyword phrase here. </title>

Your title tag is where you place your primary keyword or keyword phrase. The sentence will describe your business in less than 90 characters.

* Header Tags. Header tags are next in order of importance to search engines. They’re ranked in order of importance and look like this - <h1>Primary and/or Secondary keywords here</h1>

The “1” designates this header as the most important header on the page.

* Meta Tags. Meta tags provide the small descriptive text found underneath the title tag on the search engine results page. Like title tags these should be kept brief, informative and up to date.

* Alt Tags. Alt tags are used to provide a text description of a graphic. Each graphic on your site should have a description and an alt tag.

Tip #2 Add content to your site daily

Content is essential for traffic and a top search engine ranking. Content is what search engine spiders look for and index - without it there’s nothing to index or rank. Give visitors and search engines a reason to visit and index your site. Make a commitment to provide daily, optimized content and your traffic will soar.

Tip #3 Procure valuable and relevant incoming links

The more websites which link to your webpages the more valuable search engines perceive you to be, though not all links are created equal. Search engines give more leverage to links from sites which are popular and credible and from sites which are relevant to your website topic.

There are different types of links.

- A direct link looks like a basic website address, for example, www.yourwebsite.com

- A text link occurs when the webpage address is embedded in the text. Readers simply click on the link and are redirected to a new website page.

- If the link is to an internal web page, for example an article published on a website, rather than the home page, it is called a “deep link.”

You can encourage linking to your website by:

* Adding content to your site.

* Submitting to article directories.

* Publishing press releases.

* Blogging and participating in social networking forums, chat rooms and social networking sites.

Tip #4 Be Social!

Now more than ever before, internet marketing is about building a community. Whether you offer a forum on your website or you participate in social networking sites, social networking is a valuable traffic generating tactic. Sites like Facebook and Twitter can be powerful tools for generating links and traffic to your site – create a profile and then post comments, links to your site and ideas which generate conversation.

Get involved - many chat rooms and forums are industry specific, find those which cater to your industry, and begin participating. Speak to and connect with a highly targeted audience.

Tip #5 Advertise for more exposure and traffic

Advertising, when handled strategically, can be used to promote your content and products or services. PPC advertising is often the tool of choice because you control the advertising budget on a daily basis and have the tools to test and track your advertising efforts. Once you’ve honed your PPC ads the return on investment can be phenomenal in terms of traffic and purchases.

For maximum results, create a traffic and SEO strategy. Outline your plan and your goals and then take the necessary action. Take advantage of these five traffic and search engine tips to boost your business.

Government (US) Regulation Targets Bloggers and Affiliate Marketers

E-mail

I am beginning to see some buzz about proposed US Federal Trade Commission regulations concerning false claims or failure to disclose compensation, free gifts, and other conflicts of interest. Interestingly, most of the talk is about the possible need to add more disclaimers and how this may be carried out without affecting the current marketing practices.

The subject is not new (apparently started in its current form in 2007) but has heated up this year with the inclusion of new verbiage in the FTC guidelines. The rules in question are actually quite old, basically "Truth in Advertising". Language has been added to include what has come to be known as the "New Media".

This post is not meant to be a lengthy study of this subject, just a personal rant really.

Brian Clark from copyblogger.com has an article written from the 'previously a lawyer" point of view - How to Turn Affiliate Marketing Disclosure Into a Selling Point (June 2009) - with many comment authors that have a better handle on the scope of the problem than he does. Many more of the comment authors there seem (predictably) blissfully ignorant. Brian Clark pegs his position on blogging pretty well with just a couple of points. He makes it clear that he writes his blog simply to solidify his presence on the web and boils it all down to content marketing.

Daniel M. Clark from danielmclark.com has an article with the cryptic title of - Web 3.0: The Government Strikes Back, Part One (June 2009) - that was written for shock value only because the article goes relatively long with out saying anything about much. He follows up with another shocking title - $11,000 Disclosure Fines: The Government Strikes Back, Part Two (October 2009) - where he continues to fill white-space with text and display his math prowess, not much more.

It seems someone at the FTC saw this addition as necessary. I wonder why there is not a lot more uproar about current marketing practices on the Internet? Social Media, Social Networking, Social Engineering, are these really the benign terms that today's Internet marketers would like us to believe they are?

Many of the "Internet Marketing Systems" that are being touted today are based on principles that have previously been used by a group that we know by many names but can be collectively labeled "Con-Artists". When I took the time to research the "Gurus" of this ilk, I found it distasteful that many would proudly say that they were taking their ques from books written by (or about the adventures / crimes of) some of the most notable and confessed "Con-Artists".

A notable training course available on the Web that may help you to understand the tactics or teach you the basics and more, if you are so inclined, is called "Scam School". Proper name , it seems. They have a two part series - Scam your way into anything! (Brian's SXSW panel part 1) and Scam your way into anything panel (part 2), plus bonus Q&A!

Yes, those that ply their skills well can make money. Those that are the best at art theft and forgery have a lucrative gig too...

Internet marketing guarantees, really?

E-mail

Ok, I have tried to put up with the outlandish claims from the pages of the Internet for a long time now, but it seems they are going just too far...

Now they feel "justified" in their lies because of a new trick they believe they have found...

In my travels around the Net and researching many of the offers, I run across freeandpowerful.com, their site clearly states "you are guaranteed $125 in 24 hours" and it goes on to say; "ATTENTION: Every Word Used To Present This System Is 100% Hype FREE. It is true. Zero Cost/100% FREE. NO LEARNING REQUIRED to make $125. Just fill out 4 to 5 easy forms."

I could see that these claims were blatantly false so just to see what was behind it - I carried on and joined their program (something that I do not recommend that you do, remember, "do not try these things at home") and sure enough, I found them to be untrue (**surprise**). I carried on to contact the supposed owner of the site and asked what recourse was available under their stated "guarantee". I was first given a lot of hokum about me being the first out of hundreds that saw the problem and after a short conversation including many "don't give me that" statements, I was directed to their Terms and Conditions page which states clearly that their website is provided for entertainment purposes only and without warranty of any kind. I had read that page and could see it coming, I just wanted to see how the conversation went. I was appalled at the attitude of this person that felt justified in their lies just because they had a "just kidding clause" on another page.

Entertaining... they certainly were entertained by getting the money generated from the many programs that they push you to to join so you can remain a part of their program. To complete their "Zero cost/100% FREE" program costs about $70.

The above example is just one of many and just chosen as an example, no I am not just upset because I spent the money, I went in with eyes full open, it is just a cost of doing business.

The number of sites that I see popping up with "guarantees" - "thirty day money back", "5,000 guaranteed visitors to your site", etc... with disclaimer pages that say "uh, just kidding :)" is just sickening. The only reason for this type of marketing must be just to keep the money from those that let you get away with it.

Be aware of this tactic, very aware.
